Catch up on past people moves and business wins

WPP China has promoted Sara Qian to chief financial officer and Stella Sun to chief people officer. Qian joined WPP in 2019 as CFO for WPP Media in China. Her extensive experience includes senior finance leadership positions across diverse industries, including Takeda, McDonald’s and L’Oréal. Sun's career with WPP began at Ogilvy China in 2003, where she rapidly advanced through the ranks to become chief talent officer for Ogilvy China and regional director of talent acquisition & mobility for Ogilvy Asia. Both Qian and Sun will continue in their leadership roles at WPP Media and Ogilvy, respectively.

AHM has appointed TBWA Australia as its new creative agency partner, following a competitive pitch process. TBWA was chosen for its creative and strategic leadership powered by data, and a modern, integrated offering that includes social and PR. The team also brought a Gen Z creative lens. The appointment marks a strategic reset for AHM as the brand evolves to meet customer needs across a broader suite of insurance products, including health, travel, pet, life, income, car and home insurance.

Base Design has announced the launch of BaseSaigon (BaseSGN), a creative alliance formed in partnership with Rice Studios, Vietnam’s pioneering branding agency. The move marks the expansion of Base’s global network of local studios. Operating under a model of autonomy within a connected network, BaseSaigon joins Brussels, New York, Geneva, Melbourne, and BaseDigital, together forming the Base Group. Chí-An De Leo is the co-founder and CEO at BaseSaigon.

Carbon, an independent agency with offices in Hong Kong, Singapore, and London, has promoted Matt Crescenzo to the role of creative managing partner. This is a newly created position, effective immediately. Crescenzo joined Carbon in 2023 as Senior Creative Director and previously held roles at MasterCritique, VaynerMedia APAC, Dentsu X, and McCann Worldgroup. “We’re thrilled to elevate Matt to creative managing partner,” the agency said. “He’s a rare talent who combines creative brilliance with sharp commercial instincts. Under his leadership, our Singapore team has gone from strength to strength. Andrew Clift is now the general manager of UM's Sydney office, effective immediately. Previously, Clift was the managing partner. He has been at UM since 2016 and prior to that worked with MediaCom (now EssenceMediacom).

Naga DDB Tribal has appointed Allison Jong as head of social. Based in Kuala Lumpur, Jong will report to Hajar Yusof, head of digital experience at the agency. Before DDB, Jong worked at We Are Social as its APAC lead copywriter. And prior at Boost Juice Bar Malaysia, C27, and 16 WTO.

RTS Operations Pte Ltd (RTSO) has appointed Muhaiza Ibrahim as its head of corporate
communications, where she will lead communications and stakeholder engagement for the
Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link. In this role, she will oversee communications across both Malaysia and Singapore. 

Propel Manila has appointed Paulo Marquez as business unit director. Marquez brings over a decade of experience as a standout leader in the advertising and creative industry. Before joining Propel, he worked at Publicis JimenezBasic and Ace Saatchi & Saatchi, handling major accounts such as Globe Telecom, GCash, Jollibee, and Burger King.

Oracle has parted ways with its ANZ communications lead of four years, Aurora Sassone. Sassone, an Edelman alum, announced her exit on LinkedIn, “I’m proud to have played a part in how much the Oracle brand has transformed in ANZ and grateful to have been part of that journey”. According to Aussie trade site Mumbrella, Oracle's communications for Australia and New Zealand will now be led from the company's regional headquarters in Singapore. 

Fiona Johnston will depart Dentsu ANZ at the end of this week, following her role was made redundant, just a week after fellow Dentsu CEO Kirsty Muddle was appointed Ogilvy ANZ CEO. Johnston is the CEO of the client, media, and commercial, who has been with the business for three years. She joined the agency from IPG Mediabrands in 2022 as chief client officer. Previously, she was CEO of UM ANZ. Dentsu confirmed the news, as ANZ CEO Rob Harvey will step in to oversee the media practice across both Australia and New Zealand. 

Kate Warren-Smith has joined Digitas Australia as managing director, a newly created role to boost the growth of the Publicis Groupe’s full-service digital agency. She will be based in Melbourne to lead client strategy across CX, commerce and CRM, while also supporting Digitas Australia's internal culture and operations. Warren-Smith brings over 20 years of experience in brand activation, shopper and commerce marketing, including 13 years at WPP’s VML and formerly Geometry. She was most recently VML Commerce’s managing director in Australia. 

Rudy Khaw has departed AirAsia following a two-decade-long career with the airline, where he was most recently CEO of its branding division, AirAsia Brand Co. (ABC). He started at AirAsia as a brand executive in 2007 and climbed his way up to chief brand officer in 2020, prior to taking the helm at ABC after its establishment in 2023. An expert in brand management, strategic communications, and integrated marketing in the commercial aviation sector, some of his notable campaigns for AirAsia include a partnership with Taylor Swift's Red Hot Tour 2014, sponsoring Malaysian Moto3 racer Zulfahmi Khairuddin, and a collaboration with hip hop record label 88Rising. He was named in Campaign Asia's 2024 edition of 40 Under 40. He announced his departure on LinkedIn.

Johanna Raeder has joined Globus family of brands (GFOB) as head of marketing, APAC, bringing over 15 years of experience in travel marketing strategy in the airline, cruise, hospitality, and destination sectors. Based in Sydney, she will oversee full trade and consumer marketing across the region for the company, following her two-year tenure as director of marketing at Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia. She previously spent over seven years at Norwegian Cruise Line, where she took on the role of director of marketing, APAC, for the Oceania cruises. 

Colenso has appointed James Bennett as group planning director and deputy head of planning, based in Auckland. He joins from Wieden+Kennedy London, where he spent seven years as senior planner and then planning director, creating campaigns for Sainsbury's, Samsung, Formula 1, and Nike. Hailing from Melbourne, he began his career at Cummins&Partners in 2014.

Software company Veeam has appointed Singapore-based Milk & Honey PR as its hub agency partner of record for APJ. The agency, which combines regional insights with a SaaS-first strategy, will oversee PR initiatives, earned media engagement, and content marketing, working closely with the software firm's in-house teams.
